A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, has earned international recognition as the World’s Best in English Language Skills.
The teenager from Yobe State received the prestigious award at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
Competing on behalf of Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outshone over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries, a historic achievement that has placed her in the global academic spotlight and brought pride to the nation.
TeenEagle is an internationally respected competition that assesses English proficiency, communication skills, and critical thinking, attracting students from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries.
In a statement, the head of her family, Hassan Salifu, celebrated her victory, crediting it to dedication, discipline, and the support of the state government.
“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation,” he said, as reported by Leadership.
Salifu also highlighted that Nafisa surpassed participants from native English-speaking nations, reflecting her intelligence and thorough preparation.
Her win has sparked widespread celebrations in Yobe and across Nigeria, with her family expressing gratitude to Governor Buni and the teachers at NTIC for nurturing her talent.
“Nafisa’s success is a testament to the power of educational investment. Governor Buni’s commitment has not only transformed schools in the state but also positioned Yobe and Nigeria on the global stage,” the family added.
The teenager’s remarkable achievement has prompted calls for both state and national honours, with many viewing her success as a symbol of Nigeria’s untapped academic potential.
“She has made our country proud, defeating nations where English is a native tongue. Her victory sends a strong message: with the right support, Nigerian students can excel globally,” a relative stated.
