Nigerian Gospel singer, Victoria Orenze, has addressed the controversy surrounding her use of the phrase "Jehovah El-Steeze" to describe God.
In a recent post, Victoria Orenze passionately referred to God as Jehovah El-Steeze." Meanwhile, "Steeze" is a trendy English word meaning "swag" or "impressive style." However, her statement sparked backlash, prompting her to clarify her intentions and provide biblical context.
So, Orenze explained that "Steeze" is an English word that describes a person's distinctive and impressive way of doing things or style, and she used it to express her awe at God's power and majesty. Also, she cited several biblical verses that describe God in similar terms, such as "consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:29), "wrapped in light" (Psalm 104:2), and "His voice like thunder" (Revelation 19:12).
Additionally, she noted that the use of certain words as slangs does not change their meaning in English, citing the example of "loose guard" and how it relates to God's constant vigilance (Psalm 121:4).
Conclusively, Orenze reiterated her admiration for God's majesty and power, stating, "He is not just composure but everything else created loses their composure before Him. He is not just covered in light but He is light. Today He can ride on the cloud as His vehicle and tomorrow He is riding the wind. That's why I call Him my Jehovah El Steeze."
