M.I Abaga releases new album

Nigerian rapper and Chocolate City boss, Jude Abaga popularly known as M.I Abaga, has officially released his highly anticipated fifth studio album titled “A Story On Self Worth: Yxng Dxnzl.”

The album, released midnight on Friday is M.I’s second album in 2018; the first, “Rendezvous” was released in February.

Prior to the unveiling of the album, M.I had dropped hints of the release by sharing the official track-list and tweets to keep his fans pumped up with anticipation.

The record features 10 tracks including his highly controversial cut “You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives” which stirred a wide range of arguments in the music scene as at the time of its release.

M.I Abaga used this album as an avenue to answer some of life’s pressing questions, ably assisted by some of the finest bubbling pop and Afro-fusion artistes like Odunsi The Engine, Tay Iwar, Lady Donli, Niyola, Lorraine Chia, PatrickxxLee and Cina Soul.

Currently topping the charts on iTunes, the album has been getting rave reviews since its release as some have referred to it as one of the most “socially conscious” projects ever done by a Nigerian rapper.

In a tweet before the release of the album, M.I gave an impression of insecurity as he wasn’t so sure if the album would be accepted by his fans and especially by critics.

“Sigh… This album is career suicide. Hopefully y’all are still with me,” he said as fans awaited the release of the album.

Impressed by the outcome of the album, some fans even tagged the album therapeutic.

“Did @MI_Abaga just release his therapy tapes to the entire world on his

new album #YxngDxnzl? This dude just gave all of himself on this album. He went very very personal on this one. Been up listening since 2am till now,” Streams of Music‏ @streamsofmusic

said.

“Just listened to @MI_Abaga’s new album and it legit feels like I just got out of a therapy session didn’t even know I needed. Thank you so much MI, that’s a beautiful body of work #aStudyOnSelfWorth #YxngDxnzl,” Imperfect me‏ (@AdyRockTown) said.

The multiple-award winning rapper and United Nations (UN) Goodwill Ambassador 2012 has a total of eight projects – Five albums and three mixtapes.

The Jos-raised rapper who broke into the industry after his groundbreaking single “Crowd Mentality” has been a force to reckon with and one of the few people to greatly influence mainstream hip hop in Nigeria.
