Speculations of Kiss Daniel’s exit from G-Worldwide Entertainment had been rife for a long time and were, a few days ago, confirmed when the artiste, after expiration of his contract, unveiled his own label code named ‘Fly Boy Inc’.
His exit comes after closing up his four year deal with G-Worldwide during which he released his ‘New Era’ album which contained hit songs like ‘Woju’, ‘Laye’, among others. Before his exit, rumours had it that Kiss Daniel was not happy with his label, owing to certain clauses in his contract which those close to him, said became an issue.
The major clause that was much talked about around entertainment circles was the ‘no collaboration policy’ by the label which barred the singer from working with any of artiste in the music industry, except for members of G-Worldwide imprint. This situation, over time, deprived the singer of necessary collaborations and opportunities to show his versatility. Also, the allege refusal by G Worldwide to review the content of his contract may be another main reason for their fall out. Others say financial mismanagement is to blame. This made many of his fans very angry and many took to social media at various times to vent.
And so, when the news of Kiss Daniel’s exit from his former label broke, many of his teeming supporters were in jubilant mood and sent congratulatory messages to the singer.
Kiss Daniel confirmed the news of his exit on social media with a photo that captioned, ‘FLY BOY I.N.C ( FBI ) #FBI #Flyboyinc #TeamKD #TeamFlyboyinc#TeamVado #INC #C.E.O’. From all indications, Kiss Daniel will be both the frontline act/artiste and C.E.O of his Fly Boy INC. label.
Already, many have been discussing the various avenues that the singer may explore now that he is not restricted in any way. According to one fan, Matilda Essien, “Kiss Daniels now controls his destiny. We cannot wait to see what he plans to do in the new year”, she told Friday Treat.
Many fans share Matilda’s optimism.From what has been gathered online, fans are looking forward to seeing the singer dish out new records that will enlist the collaboration of other musicians.
His manager, Tumi, in a chat with some media representatives recently said, “Expect more music and activities from Kiss Daniel”.
On the other hand, the artiste has cleared the air, stressing that there was no rift between him and his former label and that he’s grateful to the label for giving him a platform to showcase his talents to the world.
According to him, now was the right time for him to leave G-Worldwide Entertainment after the label had helped him establish himself in the music scene.
“I’ll always appreciate the role G- Worldwide has played so far but it’s time to take this to a whole new level”.
The singer was signed by G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2013, and became one of the highest rated artistes in the country within a short time. But, now that he has left the label, some critics and entertainment pundits are skeptical that the artiste may not be fully ready to manage his future by himself.
According to Yinka Quadri, a blogger, “I am not sure Kiss Daniel can manage himself and other artistes under his own label. In my opinion, not many artistes do well as label owners. Since Lil Kesh, Iyanya and a few others left their respective labels to be on their own, have they been as successful as they were before?”. It is easier fir artistes who started on their own and achieve success to float their own labels and learn along the way and that is why people like Olamide, Falz and co. are successful in their own right. However, only time will tell”, he said.
Another fan, Opeyemi Yusuf, felt that Kiss Daniel shouldn’t begin to sign artistes yet, but to regain his popularity with new music. “I hope he can stand alone. Now, he will be spending his money and that won’t be easy. Song productions and videos dont come cheap”, she said.
However, Kiss Daniels had this to say in reply to such queries. “Expect nothing short of the quality sound you know Kiss Daniel for. This move will only make things better as I look forward to greater years ahead” he says.
