Hurray!! Popular Nollywood Actor, Pete Edochie Turns 70 Today

Pete Edochie was honoured with the AMVCA Industry Merit Award in 2014.

Pete Edochie, who is one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, turns 70 today, March 7, 2017.

And as expected, many have started paying homage to him, most of all his son and Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie.

‘Happy 70th birthday to my father, Chief Pete Edochie. I thank God for your life and I pray you see many more great years. God be with you always Dad,’ Yul shared on Instagram earlier today.

Pete is well known for his roles in movies and TV series like Things Fall Apart in which he played the role of Okonkwo to critical acclaim, Igodo, Egg of Life, The Lions, Evil Men, Oracle, and Narrow Escape.

Others include Billionaires Club, Sins Of Our Forefathers, My Love, and Felony which also featured Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Saint Obi and Ngozi Ezeonu.

In 2014, Pete was honoured with an AMVCA Industry Merit Award for his influence in the growth of the African movie industry.

The Nollywood veteran has starred in hundreds of movies and still gets major roles since his breakthrough in the ’80s, when he left radio broadcasting to pursue a career in acting.

He once said there are few people in Nigeria that speak English as well as he does because he studied English and was trained by the BBC.

While he’s an actor, Pete Edochie’s life off the screen is one that would make for good movie scripts.

In 2009, he was kidnapped and later released while he was also reported dead in 2012 when he was in the northern part of the country to promote a new movie at the time.

It’s not been all gloom though, as the 70-year-old actor is also more popular in recent times for the Internet memes created using his many facial expressions which emphasise proverbs especially and other fun things.

Indeed, Nigeria and Nigerians are blessed to have such an icon to call their own.

Happy birthday to the famous Igwe of Nollywood!
