A fan once slapped me on stage –Comedian, Bash

Comedians are known and appreciated for making people laugh, but people do not always react to them in the same way.

While some may laugh at their jokes, others may not find it so funny and easy to swallow. Indeed, comedians also have their own embarrassing moments, and in a chat with Sunday Scoop, popular comedian, Bash, shared his experience.

 “My most embarrassing moment was when a fan slapped me on stage at MUSON Centre. Till date, I do not know why he did that; probably, he did not agree with the joke I cracked, or he was over-excited,” he said.

Contrary to what many may think, Bash also maintained that he tries hard not to get on people’s nerves with his jokes. In his words, “I do not crack jokes about artistes, and I do not hit below the belt. I try to be as straight-forward as I can. I am one of the few comedians that find it very hard to insult people. That is one of the things that distinguish me from others.”

Speaking on how he gets inspiration, he said, “I read books and listen to the news. I also watch movies and I am very informed.”

The funny-bone also shared some of his plans for 2017. He stated, “I will be introducing something new to my brand early this year called Unusual Spotlight. After that, I will be planning my annual show, The Good, The Bash and The Funny. Last year, I had it in Malaysia, Jakarta, Lagos and Ibadan. This year, I am looking at moving it to Ghana and some other places. I will also be going to South Africa for my gospel show, Humour Monger, which is a one-man show which I perform all around the world in churches. I will be very busy this year.”

On how he juggles all these shows together, the rib-cracker said, “It is all about hard work and planning. God is a wonderful planner, as he created the whole world in six days, and that’s the path I am trying to follow.”

On whether the economic recession has affected the way Nigerians react to jokes, Bash said, “Nigerians are the only set of people that can survive no matter the situation. If this recession had happened in another country, there would have been war or something worse. Nigerians always adapt, and that is the unique thing about us.”
