Interview With Opeyemi_'Nigelzyent meets Opeyemi

We were able to connect with Opeyemi Michael Emdin and the versatile singer/Rapper told us a lot of things people probably didn't know about him. He discussed his soon-to-be released EP, his dream collaboration and where he hopes to be in coming years. Read our chart with Opeyemi below.

NIGELZYENT: Can we meet you Sir

Opeyemi: I am Opeyemi Michael Emdin. Born and brought up in Lagos state. I finished OND last year at the gateway ict polytechnic, ogun state last year. I'm a recording/Performing artiste signed to Brainy World Entertainment. That's all I can think of for now. (laughs).

NIGELZYENT: Interesting
 Nice meeting you Opeyemi

Opeyemi: Same here. It's my pleasure.

NIGELZYENT: So whats your  stage name?

Opeyemi: Opeyemi. Yes, Opeyemi. At times people get to ask me hilarious questions, like why not add swag to the name. To be sincere, it's really nice being original. Many A-List artists have used their names and still made it. I feel what matters is the music not the name.

NIGELZYENT: Wow that's good,
Any track to your credit?

Oeyemi: I can count on over 30. That was before I changed my stage name to opeyemi. But I released a work last month produced by del'B, and I'm working on more works with young John, Kelly hansome, ashidapo and some other artists. I'm even working on my first EP that'll be premiered on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

NIGELZYENT: Ok now as Opeyemi whats your first track titled
& talking about your change of name what was your name and why did you change it

Opeyemi: My first track is 'My city rocks feat samboy omowoliagba x alabeere oosha x del'B.
My name was 'Mike Emdin'. I wanted that yoruba flavor in everything I do which led to my decision.

NIGELZYENT: Ok,
How about ur fort coming projects

Opeyemi: I'll release some singles before the EP though. Some works will be released off the EP too

NIGELZYENT: Sorry can you define EP

Opeyemi: An EP is an extended Play. A musical recording that's more than a single but not qualified to be an album. Precisely, albums could consist of over 20 tracks but an EP might just contain five tracks.

NIGELZYENT: Ok,
So what did you study in school

Opeyemi: Computer Engineering.

NIGELZYENT: why do music after studying engineering

Opeyemi: Hahahahaha. I've been expecting this question. I've been doing music even before I thought of engineering. It's a passion I have been into for years. At times you want to express yourself the best way you can,
Music is the best for me.

NIGELZYENT: very good,
 so how About your family,
Are they in support of this so called passion you are into?

Opeyemi: Firstly God bless my mum. My first ever studio session was paid by her. My dad's been there too. As funny as it may sound, he's a good lyricist. We rehearse together at times.

NIGELZYENT: Wow this is hardly seen in this part of the world

Opeyemi: It depends on the mentally we have. I feel every parent should support things like this too. It's not all about the school, grades and white collar jobs

NIGELZYENT: Ok whats is Your kind of music

Opeyemi: Hiphop, afro pop and a bit of dancehall. I can do reggae too. depends on how the inspiration comes

NIGELZYENT: Talking abt inspiration,

What inspires you Opeyemi?

Opeyemi: Things around me. I can imagine things happen and make music out of them. Even the recession going on now is enough inspiration. (laughs)

NIGELZYENT: Na so!
Ok beyond the above any role model?

Opeyemi: Kelly hansome. I like him, 2Baba, Mode9 and Sound sultan to name a few Legends!

NIGELZYENT: Cool

With your expirience so far in the Nigerian music industry what can you say about the industry

Opeyemi: Everything is going on just fine. Things seem to be changing rapidly. Artists rebranding to meet up with what the current market wants. The industry is moving to greater Heights.

NIGELZYENT: Ok Opeyemi,
What do you do besides music?

Opeyemi: I spend most times doing music. When I'm not doing music, I'm being adventurous. I use my social apps so often. At times, I hang out with friends. But I'm very active on social media, and it's the main thing I do apart from music. I blog too, but not fully into that.

NIGELZYENT: Where do you see yourself in the next 5years

Opeyemi: Stardom. By God's grace. I should be a father by then, if God be for me. Anyway, that aside I hope to be very relevant in the music industry by then. I'll just keep working hard and trusting in God.

NIGELZYENT: Talking about fatherhood are you married?

Opeyemi: No. But 5 years from now is enough time.

NIGELZYENT: easier said

For now how do you cope with your female fans

Opeyemi: I'll rather not talk about that, thanks.

NIGELZYENT: (laughs) if not now I wonder what you will say then. All good
Whats your dream collaboration?

Opeyemi: I wish to have a collaboration with Olamide. That's my dream feature.

NIGELZYENT: Best of luck
We will be expecting that

Rounding up Ope what will you say to your fans?

Opeyemi: To those that are supporting and believing in what I do, please don't stop supporting me. Your prayers will keep me going. Share my music to others that have never heard about me the best way you can. I'll always appreciate Your all, thanks.

NIGELZYENT: Very good Ope any honorable mention?

Opeyemi: Yeah. Thanks to y'all at the nigelzy for reaching out to me. I really appreciate this. God bless you, team Nigelzyent.

NIGELZYENT: Welcome Opeyemi keep doing what you do best we will always identify with Good music ...

Thanks for your time Sir

Opeyemi: You are welcome.
